The Royal Shakespeare Company’s (RSC) recent decision to exit stage left from its longstanding partnership with BP was no laughing matter to the UK supermajor.

But British satirical news magazine Private Eye saw fit to give the drama a second act, carrying a spoof advertisement for the RSC’s new season of shows — “Now Without BP sponsorship!”

The ad, which the RSC confirmed to Upstream is indeed not genuine, said the theatre company would be running plays called “Half Measure for Half Measure” and, almost inevitably, “Oil’s Well That Ends Well”, among others.
