All 115 workers on board EnQuest’s Thistle platform in the UK northern North Sea were evacuated suddenly earlier this week over fears about the structural integrity of the 43-year-old facility.

EnQuest said it “proactively downmanned” Thistle, located 200 kilometres north-east of Shetland in Block 211/18, in what it called a "precautionary move" on 21 October.

It followed an inspection of what EnQuest called a “support element” on a redundant subsea crude storage tank system.
