Sources said the 126,530-cbm LNG Edo, built in 1980, went into Spain´s Navantia yard in El Ferrol in February.

It is reported that strong vibrations were noticed during a routine drydocking of the ship in France. These were traced to the ship´s gearbox and in particular to its large gear or“bull wheel”.

The LNG carrier was shifted to the Spanish yard and the gear was removed but replacement spares shipped in from General Electric in the US were found to have sustained corrosion and could not be used.
