The former chief executive of long-defunct Houston player Tiger Oil passed away in Las Vegas on 18 September at the age of 85 after a cancer battle. Friend Kevin Trujillo told the Denver Business Journal: “He was working until about six months ago — still drilling oil wells, mostly in Wyoming and Nebraska.”
But the man who set up Tiger Oil from cash gained in a divorce settlement from media mogul Helen Bonfils – whom he married in 1959 when she was 69 and he just 28 – will forever be remembered for memos that were given a second life with the advent of the internet after being published on website Letters of Note.
