EFFICIENCY gains in the three largest US tight oil plays are showing signs of having reached a plateau for the first time since oil prices began to decline a year ago.

This could lead to larger cuts in oil production than have been seen to date.

The amount of new oil production generated by a rig drilling in the Eagle Ford, Bakken and Permian plays is projected to be the same in November as it was in October, according to the latest estimates from the US Energy Information Administration (EIA).

The
