The Tioman T9 is the first drill tender barge built by MSE and the contractor did the job "on time and on budget", said Smedvig Asia managing director Staale Rod.
Despite tough competition from the Singapore yards, MSE landed the Tioman T9 job because of its track record with Smedvig contracts.
Other rig contractors such as Transocean and Pride International are now "seriously talking" to the Malaysian contractor regarding their drill tender barge repair contracts.
