Botswana-focused junior Tlou Energy aims to produce first coalbed methane gas for power generation on its Lesedi Independent Power Project (IPP) by 2019, writes Barry Morgan.
The London-listed player has just secured approval of an environmental impact statement for its upstream project that aims to tap about 261 billion cubic feet of CBM resource.
Tlou's founder and chief executive Anthony Gilby said: “Fracking is one way to get gas out of tight coal but we choose to avoid dramas by deploying a simple horizontal drilling technique as one would in fractured shale, punching 750 metres through six metres of coal after intersecting a vertical well.”
