Heerema Tonsberg chairman Knut Heim told the yard's 200 workers this week that the group will stop tendering for fabrication work at the yard immediate effect and "we will hunt high and low" for a new owner, although the market's bleak outlook means other oil and gas contractors will be unlikely buyers.
The yard's closure follows a study that concluded there was not enough short or long-term demand for offshore fabrication services around the North Sea to support current capacity.
