Total and Cairn Energy are pulling out of a block off Ireland after deciding against any further prospect maturation.

The French supermajor is operator of frontier exploration licence 2/14 in the southern Porcupine basin, which hosts the pre-Cretaceous Diablo prospect. Irish independent Providence Resources said Total, Cairn and Irish minnow Sosina Exploration will relinquish the licence on 31 December.

Total holds a 35% stake in the block, with Cairn on 30%, Providence on 28% and Sosina on 7%.
