France’s Total has indicated it could be keen to increase its exposure to Arctic liquefied natural gas projects being pushed forward by Russia’s Novatek, writes Vladimir Afanasiev.

Total chief executive Patrick Pouyanne said the French company intends to talk with Novatek to obtain 10% stakes in its projects to build two LNG transshipment terminals in northern Russia.

Last year, Novatek agreed with the authorities of the Kamchatka region in the east of Russia to build the first terminal in the Bay of Bechevinskaya on the remote Kamchatka Peninsula, about 75 kilometres north-east of regional capital Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.
