Oil industry suppliers in northern Norway are hoping that a forthcoming wildcat by operator Wintershall Dea will be successful, potentially reopening the contentious debate over petroleum activity offshore the pristine Lofoten archipelago.
Wintershall Dea, which was created this week through the merger of Germany's two main upstream players, recently submitted an application for consent to drill its promising Toutatis prospect just south of the currently off-limits waters outside Lofoten in northern Norway.
