Turkey is gearing up to drill its first offshore wildcat in the eastern Mediterranean in a move that risks increasing tensions between the country and its neighbours Greece and Cyprus.
State-backed player Turkish Petroleum (TPAO) will use its drillship Fatih (formerly Deepsea Metro II) to drill the Alanya-1 deep-water exploration well 100 kilometres off the southern Turkish province of Antalya and 60 kilometres off the country's Alanya district.
