According to Yamal-Nenets regional governor Dmitry Kobylkin, the 525-kilometre Zapolyarye–Purpe pipeline will underpin the expansion of existing projects and new greenfield developments for many years to come.
This move follows a sharp reduction in the originally declared amount of oil to be put into the pipeline at its starting point at Zapolyarye.
The government ordered Transneft to build the pipeline in April 2010, aiming to provide an export outlet for projects in the Yamal Peninsula and the northern part of the Krasnoyarsk region.
