According to Yamal-Nenets regional governor Dmitry Kobylkin, the 525-kilometre Zapolyarye–Purpe pipeline will underpin the expansion of existing projects and new greenfield developments for many years to come.

This move follows a sharp reduction in the originally declared amount of oil to be put into the pipeline at its starting point at Zapolyarye.

The government ordered Trans­neft to build the pipeline in April 2010, aiming to provide an export outlet for projects in the Yamal Peninsula and the northern part of the Krasnoyarsk region.
