Troops 2 Roughnecks is a Carlsbad, California-based military-to-civilian transition programme that trains the former GIs just as they are preparing to leave the service.
The programme is not part of some new GI Bill from the US government, but rather it is organised by private outfit Troop Transition International (TTI).
Graduates of the 10-week courses, which are held on base during off-duty evening and weekend hours, are placed with jobs in either their hometown or into the town of their choice.
