Gardim-1 was drilled on the east flank of the Chew Bahir basin in the South Omo licence and reached a total depth of 2468 metres in basement, without hitting commercial oil.
Tullow exploration director Angus McCoss said: “We have now drilled two independent wildcats in (this) basin, neither of which encountered commercial oil.” Gardim-1 intercepted lacustrine and volcanic formations similar to those found in Tullow’s earlier Shimela-1 well on the north-west flank of the basin.
