Malcolm Roberts has had an action-packed two-year tenure as chief executive of the Australian Petroleum Production & Exploration Association (APPEA).

When he began the job in June 2015, the oil price had just completed its precipitous collapse to US$50, and the industry was entering the downturn.

At the same time, domestic challenges were boiling away in Australia.

The public was well accustomed to offshore petroleum activities but not to onshore activities, and so environmentalists and anti-fossil fuel protesters were stamping their mark on policymakers.
