The country aims to sign agreements with foreign contractors for the South Iolotan, Osman and Yashlar fields either this year or early in 2009, with the goal of starting commercial production in two and a half years, according to Baimurad Khodzhamukhamedov, chairman of state company Turkmengaz.

Khodzhamukhamedov said a key challenge is the construction time for gas processing units, which are required to treat produced gas containing 8% hydrogen sulphide.
