Most exploration activity in Papua New Guinea centres on finding onshore fields to develop for liquefied natural gas, but Twinza Oil is quietly drilling the country's first offshore well in years, writes Russell Searancke.

Privately-owned Twinza spudded the Pasca-A4 appraisal well a couple of months ago using the jack-up drilling rig COSL Seeker, owned by China Oilfield Services Limited.

It is almost 17 years since the last jack-up drilling rig operated in PNG, and the first offshore well since 2013.
