The then record 260-metre water depth at the Hondo field prompted operator Exxon to divide its jacket into two halves, roughly equal in height.
In June 1976 these two sections were launched off their transport barges at the field.
There they were brought together while still floating in the water on their sides, connected in that position, and then upended and installed as a single unit.
