Ugandan lawmakers are bracing for another round of political controversy as Tullow Oil offloads Albertine Graben equity to partner Total, with China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) claiming pre-emption rights, writes Barry Morgan.

Officials are wary of allowing one oil company to dominate and are understood to have encouraged the split. 

However, the deal's progress will likely trigger fiscal challenges and will be watched closely by civil society groups.
