UGANDA has formally decided to export its crude from the Abertine Graben to Tanzania’s Tanga port, just south of Mombasa.
The decision was made partly on cost grounds but also in response to geopolitical shifts that would weaken Kenya’s traditional regional dominance.
Landlocked Uganda can lessen its economic dependence on Kenya by following Total’s favoured option of routing 1.7 billion barrels of recoverable crude into Tanzania by 2020.
