DANISH operator Maersk Oil has sanctioned its $4.5 billion Culzean ultra high-pressure high-temperature development in the UK central North Sea.
The company has handed the main fabrication contracts to Sembcorp Marine unit SMOE in Singapore and Heerema Fabrication Group (HFG) in the Netherlands.
The high-profile scheme, set to receive tax allowances from the UK government, was also given the go-ahead by the Oil & Gas Authority (OGA), the UK regulator, delivering some rare upbeat news for the depressed North Sea sector.
