Concerns have been raised that thousands of UK and European Union workers — many made redundant in the oil price downturn — will be denied the chance to work on North Sea oil and gas decommissioning projects as companies look instead to use cheaper foreign manpower.
The warning comes from the UK’s Offshore Co-ordinating Group (OCG), an alliance of trade unions, which said this week it has evidence that a mainly Asian labour force is being used on CNR International’s Murchison decommissioning project, located in the UK sector.
