Josephine Wapakabulo has unexpectedly resigned as chief executive of state-owned Uganda National Oil Company, effective from 13 August, citing personal and family reasons for her surprise departure.

It is not clear if anyone is lined up to replace Wapakabulo who was praised by UNOC chairman Emmanuel Katongole in a statement.

He added the company "has a well-structured succession planning strategy that assures continuity of business and growth."
