A Los Angeles Superior Court judge, in a tentative decision, said she would reject Unocal's move to dismiss the suit, clearing the way for jury selection to begin in late September. Official notification is still pending. Unocal said it would "vigorously contest" allegations that it is "vicariously liable for human rights abuses committed by the Myanmar (Burma) military".
Unocal noted that none of its actions were on trial and no evidence had been presented to suggest it had participated in or influenced any human rights violations allegedly committed by the Burmese military.
