Spanish engineer Tecnicas Reunidas is understood to have been awarded a front-end engineering and design contract by Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc) for the further expansion of its Upper Zakum offshore oilfield.
Industry sources told Upstream that the Spanish player was handed the prestigious FEED contract in April, following a competitive tender process.
Adnoc wants to expand Upper Zakum's production capacity to 1 million barrels per day by 2024, with the development project likely to be worth $8 billion.
