Tensions between the US and Iran appeared to ease this week as officials spoke of a reduced danger of military confrontation despite continued antagonistic rhetoric between Washington and Tehran, writes Eoin O'Cinneide.

After US President Donald Trump warned Iran to “never threaten" the US again, Iranian counterpart Hassan Rouhani vowed that the sanctions-hit Islamic Republic would “never bow to a bully”, rejecting any opportunity of fresh talks between the two countries.
