The US Energy Department has awarded a total of $110 million for research into carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS) amid growing interest in the technology, which producers say can lower carbon emissions while boosting fossil fuel production.
The agency said the funding would further President Donald Trump's administration's commitment to coal, but officials also pointed to its use in enhanced oil recovery.
