US Defense Department raises Gulf of Mexico concerns

The US Department of Defense has raised concerns that opening up the Eastern Gulf of Mexico to exploration without sufficient restrictions could "severely affect" military training exercises in the area, writes Caroline Evans.

A report called the Eastern Gulf of Mexico an "irreplaceable national asset," and said the region is "critical to achieving the objectives contained in the National Defense Strategy".
