Bua Ban was discovered in April 1990 and was one of several prospects drilled by Premier Oil between 1988 and 1996. Bua Ban's possible reserves are put at 17 million barrels of oil and 2.34 billion cubic feet of gas by Thailand's Department of Mineral Fuels (DMF).
NuCoastal's deviated Bua Ban–2 and–3 wells will be drilled by the jack-up rig Ensco 52 from a single surface location.
