ExxonMobil has boosted its exploration position in the frontier Namibe basin off West Africa by securing access to four deep-water blocks in Namibia, writes Iain Esau.

This virtually undrilled basin also extends into Angolan waters where the US supermajor has been in talks with the Luanda-based authorities for four months to acquire licences for blocks 30, 44 and 45.

In Namibia, ExxonMobil signed an agreement with the government and state-owned Namcor covering blocks 1710 and 1810 while also farming in to blocks 1711 and 1811A.
