Lawmakers from the Democrat-controlled US House of Representatives last week voted to pass two bills permanently banning oil and gas drilling in federal waters off Florida and off the Atlantic and Pacific coasts, writes Kathrine Schmidt.
However, the votes are expected to remain largely symbolic as the bills are seen as unlikely to gather support from the Republican-controlled US Senate.
