The rocket attack against a site housing oil companies in the Iraqi oil hub of Basra has the hallmark of Iranian proxies and is certainly likely to be blamed on them.

The highly-symbolic attack targeted the Burjesia residential and operations headquarters west of Basra - home to companies including ExxonMobil, Shell and Italy’s Eni. Three Iraqi workers were injured.

It mirrors a similar attack last month when a rocket landed near the US embassy complex in Baghdad’s fortified Green Zone after Washington moved to beef up its military presence in the Persian Gulf.
