The US onshore rig count fell by five this week to 851, led by losses in the state of Pennsylvania and Marcellus shale play, according to the tally by US services company Baker Hughes.
That total, a long-tracked barometer of oil and gas activity, is down by 216 units from the figure of 1067 a year ago as softness continues to hit the US onshore sector.
