Shale operators may be bumping up against the technical limits of drilling ever-longer laterals, a tactic that has been shown to increase the economics and production curves for unconventional wells, writes Luke Johnson.
Core Laboratories chief executive David Demshur told analysts on a quarterly conference call that lateral lengths "may have reached their maximum" due to the "frictional forces" of pumping fluid and proppant to stimulate wells.
