Vallares will be Hayward’s first front line oil company job since he was forced out as chief executive of BP last October after attracting widespread criticism in the US following the Deepwater Horizon disaster in the US Gulf.
According to one of Hayward’s new partners, Vallares is likely to steer clear of both deep water and North America but not because of the ex-BP man’s association with the Macondo tragedy, which claimed 11 lives and caused an enormous oil spill along the US Gulf coast.
