The new Vard Promar shipyard sits almost hidden behind the cavernous Estaleiro Atlantico Sul (EAS) yard and, although a fraction of the size, is a hive of activity. It has a workforce of about 2000, about a quarter of whom are sub-contracted outfitters.
Vard Promar is building gas carriers and pipelay support vessels, and working to a much smaller scale than EAS, with its portfolio of Suezmax tankers and drillships.
