It had been anticipated that the drilling would increase understanding of the geology in this part of the continental shelf but expectations of finding any oil and gas have been low.
Vega well disappoints
SHELL'S first drilling on the Vega tract off Norway has turned out a disappointment. Traces of hydrocarbons were found but the well will not be tested for production, sources said. The licence was awarded in February 1996 under the 15th licensing round on the Norwegian continental shelf.
