Versabar completes Balam-A job
US marine contractor Versabar has completed the installation of the 2850-tonne topsides for the Balam-A wellhead platform in Mexico’s Bay of Campeche for state oil company Pemex. The deck installation, Versabar’s first in Mexico, was accomplished in just under four hours on 5 July by its twin barge-mounted dual-truss gantry crane vessel VB 10,000 following a four-day tow from Sabine Pass, Texas, in the US. Versabar was hired by primary Mexican contractor Protexa for the deck installation using its catamaran-style lifting technology, said Versabar technical director John Greeves.
