China's Sinopec has made a major shale gas discovery in the southern part of the Sichuan basin, claiming it is the largest find made so far in deep reservoirs, writes Xu Yihe.

Sinopec said in an internal newsletter that the Weirong field holds proven shale gas reserves of 124.7 billion cubic metres and that it has lined up plans to establish up to 1 Bcm of production capacity there by the end of this year.
