"Indications are that Total will resume (as operator) and we are just waiting for the green light," said a source in Juba.

A Paris-based executive said: "White Nile is clearly out, pending written confirmation from the government in Khartoum and South Sudan. This is in conformity with South Sudan President Salva Kiir's order for them (White Nile) tocease activity."

Total wants former partner Kuwait Foreign Petroleum Exploration (Kufpec) to join the licence as a junior partner, as well as state oil company Sudapet and possibly NilePet representing South Sudan, but no equity breakdown was indicated.
