Wintershall Noordzee has confirmed for the first time it has sanctioned the development of the Sillimanite gas project, which straddles the UK-Netherlands maritime border in the southern North Sea, writes Rob Watts.

A spokesman for Kassel-based Wintershall, one half of the Wintershall Noordzee venture alongside Russia’s Gazprom, said a final investment decision was taken in November on the scheme.

The scheme will re-use topsides from the existing but out-of-use E18A platform.
