The probe, drilled in 6200 feet of water, was understood to be targeting a sizeable, deepwater gas prospect using the drillship Stena Carron.
Although drilled as a tight hole, Canadian sources said the probe encountered a number of “kicks” on its way to target depth, which could signify at least the presence of a petroleum system in the almost undrilled Laurentian basin.
