WOODSIDE Petroleum has spudded the first of three big deep- water exploration wells that it describes as play-opening in South Korea and Myanmar.

In South Korea, the Hongge-1 well spudded on 21 September in 1977 metres of water Block 8/6-1N, with results expected in the fourth quarter, said Woodside.

The Perth-based independent has a 50% operator interest in the permit, with partner Korea National Oil Corporation (KNOC) taking the other 50%.
