Australia’s Woodside had its eye on the 17 trillion cubic feet Leviathan field, primarily because Noble and its partners envisaged a liquefied natural gas export project. However, the recent decision by the Israeli government to restrict gas exports to about 40% of its discovered resource base dealt an unexpected blow to this LNG ambition while the final nail in the coffin — as far as Woodside is concerned — could be that the government is now favouring pipeline exports to Turkey instead, said sources.
