Chief executive Richard Smith said the objective of the test was to validate his team’s reserves model for the Bentley reservoir, adding that successful results would bring a first permanent production phase a step nearer.
But contrary to many investors’ expectations, he warned, this would not result in a headline daily flow rate.
“Let’s reset market expectations,” Smith said. “The objective of this year’s well is really to provide extra data to validate the model that’s been built of the reservoir.”
