Mexican service player Marinsa has chartered a jack-up rig from Chinese yard Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industry (ZMPC) for drilling in the Gulf of Mexico.

Although it is not clear when drilling will start, the bareboat charter contract is understood to be planned to operate for about two years on a dayrate between $20,000 and $25,000.

Under the charter, the rig Jap Driller 1 is due to be operated by Pemex Drilling & Services for its parent, state oil company Pemex.
