The UK offshore safety regulator confirmed on Friday that US operator ConocoPhillips failed in a bid to reduce the level of a £3 million ($4.3 million) fine handed down after gas leaks on a platform in the southern North Sea put workers’ lives in danger.

The company was fined earlier this year over three gas releases that occurred on the Lincolnshire Offshore Gas Gathering System (LOGGS) complex at the end of November 2012 during maintenance work on a defective pressure control valve on the fuel gas supply to a turbine.
